A barista, a battery and a small cart of very good coffee, wheeled into your party, your office or your run club. Here's everything worth knowing before you book one in Sussex.
What is a mobile coffee cart?
It's exactly what it sounds like: a compact, self-contained coffee bar on wheels, run by a real barista. The good ones aren't a flask and a smile, they carry a proper espresso machine, a grinder, fresh and waste water, and enough power to pour all day. Ours is under 80cm wide, so it rolls through a standard doorway and tucks into a 3 × 2m corner indoors or out.
The point of a cart over a café is that it comes to you. Your guests don't leave the room, the queue stays short, and the coffee is made to order rather than stewed in an urn.
What does it cost?
There's no single number, because there are three different ways to book a cart, and they suit very different days:
- Hosted bar, you pay a flat fee and drinks are free for everyone. Classic for parties, offices and training days. Ours starts around £340.
- Pop-up bar, guests pay at the cart. If the footfall is there, it's often free to the host.
- Regulars, for weekly clubs and workplaces, we'll trial it for nothing and only keep coming back if it's busy enough.
For a full breakdown, see corporate event coffee hire, the same logic applies to most events.
What should you look for?
Three things separate a good cart from a forgettable one:
- The machine. We run a battery-powered Decent DE1, precise, consistent and efficient enough to run all day off-grid. It's not built for flat-out dual-boiler volumes, but with a pro at the helm it's plenty quick for relaxed serving.
- Speed. A good barista clears 80 drinks an hour. Ask how they'll handle your peak so nobody waits 20 minutes for a flat white.
- Self-sufficiency. Onboard water and battery means no scrambling for a plug or a tap. No generator, no trailing leads, no noise.
